S7 Group, which includes Sibir (S7) and Globus (GH), carried 6.6 million passengers in 2011, up 11.4% on the year-ago period. The number of flights increased 11.5% to 61,464.
The group did not disclose the exact numbers for each carrier but the Russian Ministry of Transport stated on its website that S7 in 2011 carried 5.13 million passengers, up 6.1% year-over-year. GH carried 1.47 million passengers, up 34.7% from 2010.
S7 director-strategy Vadim Besperstov said last year’s numbers met the carrier’s forecasts and was the result of fleet expansion. “Last spring S7 Airlines received two brand new Boeing 737-800s,” he said.
In 2012, S7 Group carriers will expand their fleets with six Airbus A320s. Last year S7 Group CEO Vladislav Filev said the airlines will operate a fleet of mixed 737s/A320s narrowbodies (ATW Daily News, June 10, 2011).
S7 Group has one of the biggest domestic networks in Russia with bases at DME, OVB and Irkutsk (IKT).
Last year the group created an MRO subsidiary, comprising S7 Engineering and Domodedovo Technic Co. at Moscow Domodedovo (DME), and Sibir Technics at Novosibirsk Tolmachevo (OVB). The providers perform C checks on Airbus A320s and Boeing 737 Classic and NG services.
In 2010, S7 Group carriers joined oneworld alliance and last year combined their loyalty programs.
