Jess Romo, manager of Van Nuys Airport (VNY), will represent Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) at NBAA2011 during its run at the Las Vegas Convention Center Monday, October 10-Wednesday, October 12, marking the first time a LAWA representative has attended the annual convention.
LAWA is the Los Angeles city department that owns and operates the Los Angeles International (LAX), LA/Ontario International (ONT) and Van Nuys (VNY) airports.
The LAWA delegation and representatives from the Van Nuys Airport Association (VNAA) will host a meeting Oct. 10, at the convention center at 2:45 p.m. with NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen; National Air Transportation Association President and CEO Jim Coyne; Romo and VNY tenants; FBOs and other stakeholders. The group will discuss ways to promote VNY and its business aviation services and operations.
“The story here is that NBAA is working with VNAA and LAWA to help foster a better appreciation of the value of business aviation at Van Nuys,” said Dan Burkhart, NBAA Director for Regional Programs and Representative for the Western Region. “It’s part of the ongoing effort by NBAA and its Membership to help local communities understand how business aviation contributes to their quality of life and economic vitality.”
Curt Castagna, president of Aerolease Group and VNAA, said LAWA also recognizes the value of NBAA2011 as a resource for reaching out to the business aviation community in the U.S. and around the world.
“Most of our tenants and FBOs have a presence at the convention,” he said. “Van Nuys is the world’s busiest general aviation airport, and millions of dollars in improvements have been made there in recent years. [LAWA] shares the same vision with the tenants and other stakeholders, which is to make the airport even better.”
Over the years, NBAA has worked diligently on behalf of Van Nuys to address access and noise issues at the airport, according to Castagna. “The fruits of those efforts have assisted us in building a renewed partnership between LAWA and Van Nuys businesses to promote the airport,” he said.
While LAWA representatives have never attended NBAA’s annual convention, they have attended the association’s regional forums. And, Castagna said, LAWA will have a booth at NBAA’s 23rd Annual Schedulers and Dispatchers Conference, which runs Jan. 15-18, 2012 at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, CA.
