Thrane & Thrane´s cutting-edge AVIATOR 200 SwiftBroadband solution has recently received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for its use aboard Citation 525/525A (CJ1/CJ2) jets and also covers the system´s use for Wi-Fi. The STC follows the successful integration and testing aboard a Cessna CJ1 model 525 aircraft which was carried out by the EASA approved Design Organisation of RUAG Aerospace Services GmbH in Oberpfaffenhofen/Germany.
"We are pleased to report integration of the Thrane & Thrane AVIATOR 200 SwiftBroadband solution aboard a Cessna CJ1 525 aircraft, which has resulted in the system successfully gaining a STC for its use aboard Citation 525/525A (CJ1/CJ2) aircraft. During testing, the AVIATOR 200 performed exceptionally well proving its capability to offer users high-speed internet to support a wide range of applications. With minimum additional engineering and certification workload this STC may be extended on Citation Jet CJ1+/CJ2+ and CJ3 aircraft models," comments Dirk Lanuschny, General Manager Engineering, at RUAG Aerospace Services GmbH.
Thrane & Thrane´s AVIATOR 200 is an exceptionally compact, lightweight system that offers reliable, affordable connectivity to provide users with a range of services including data and voice. With built-in Wi-Fi capability, the AVIATOR 200 makes it exceptionally easy for aircraft operators to offer wireless connectivity aboard, to support the use of devices such as laptops, tablets and smart phones. Thrane & Thrane is the first satellite communications equipment manufacturer to receive a STC for a SwiftBroadband 200 system, placing the company firmly at the forefront of the industry.
Andy Beers, Director of Aeronautical Sales Americas, said: "The AVIATOR 200 has now received three STCs which approve the system´s use on a range of smaller aircraft. An exceptionally compact and lightweight solution, the AVIATOR 200 complements our SwiftBroadband portfolio perfectly and offers cost effective in-flight broadband communication to an entirely new segment of users, particularly where weight and space may be critical considerations."
The AVIATOR 200 simultaneously provides data speeds up to 200 Kbps and a single AMBE 2 channel for voice calls, providing a complete airborne communications solution previously unavailable to aircraft below a certain size. Data and voice services can be accessed via wired or wireless connections built into the AVIATOR 200, eliminating the need for external wired and wireless routers.
