Embraer has signed a contract for the sale of one Phenom 300 jet to Amil Assistencia Medica. This will be the first MEDEVAC version of the Phenom 300 executive jet, which went into operation in Brazil in May 2010. Delivery of the aircraft is expected for the fourth quarter of 2011, after supplementary type certification and the installation of the special medical rescue package.
“We are pleased to announce that Amil is the first customer of the new special mission version of the Phenom 300,” said Luis Carlos Affonso, Embraer Executive Vice President, Executive Jets.
“The sale of this Phenom 300 configured for medical evacuation to Amil, which is a national benchmark health care organization in this area, shows our firm commitment to meeting the needs of customers with distinctively different products.”
The airplane will be operated by Aeromil, a company created in 1993 to manage Amil Resgate Sade, which is an air and land rescue organization dedicated to handling the most complex emergency situations. The new version of the Phenom 300 will be equipped with the traditional Patient Loading Utility System (PLUS), manufactured by LifePort. The jet will be a veritable aerial Semi-Intensive Care Unit for patients, with a 10-hour oxygen autonomy, 1,000 watts for vital equipment, a compressed air system, and space for a ventilator, medical injection pump, defibrillator, IV poles, and a neonatal incubator.
Embraer will be responsible for integrating all of the equipment with the aircraft, which includes redesigning the interior, gaining additional certification from aviation authorities, and assembly. The new cabin configuration will have space for a horizontal stretcher and four seats for medical personnel and companions of the patient, as well as a private aft restroom. All seats will have swivel mechanisms, so that those closest to the stretcher can face the patient, thus facilitating the performance of medical procedures needed during the flight.
“This new configuration demonstrates the flexibility of the Phenom 300 platform that, together with the competence of Embraer’s team of engineers and technicians, expands the operational scope of our portfolio of executive jets,” said Mauricio Almeida, Embraer Vice President, Programs – Executive Jets.
“The Phenom 300 will complement our Medical Evacuation transport fleet, ensuring our main objective when creating Amil Resgate Sade: to offer our clients state-of-the-art technology in behalf of their health. We are even more proud because this unit is an Embraer jet, produced in Brazil,” Dr. Jorge Ferreira da Rocha, President of Amil Assistencia Medica, pointed out.
“Our capacity for service will be facilitated by the Phenom 300, while offering more modern equipment that is fully customized for rescue and the inter-hospital shuttle,” added Dr. Henrique Grossi, President of Aeromil.
The Phenom 300 is an appropriate aircraft for Medical Evacuation. It has the lowest cabin pressurization in the light jet category, which is an important parameter for patients who must be kept at sea level atmospheric conditions. The access door of the airplane is the largest in its class, facilitating the entrance and exit of patients. Furthermore, the aircraft is fast, economical, can operate on short runways, and offers a comfortable and spacious cabin, which are characteristics that make it an excellent option for medical transportation operations throughout the world.
