ARGUS has announced the release of their annual SMS Audit Results Report. Each year ARGUS PROS (Partners and Resources for Operational Safety), a wholly owned subsidiary of ARGUS International, Inc (ARGUS), audits a significant number of private and commercial business aircraft flight operations and compiles the results into one single report. The 2009 SMS Audit Results report focuses on areas of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Emergency Response Planning that were found by auditors to have the highest number of deficiencies.
“Safety is not a destination. It is a constantly changing, evolving and developing journey,” said ARGUS President and CEO, Joseph Moeggenberg. “ARGUS is pleased to assist operators around the globe on their safety journey by sharing the valuable information we have gained through our global audit program. It is my hope that through these efforts, ARGUS will help aircraft operators improve their own SMS programs and continue this sharing of information with others.”
The report is based on the findings of a total of 61 audits completed during the period from January 1, 2009 to December, 2009. The report examines both SMS and Emergency Response Planning. It identifies the areas that flight departments are most challenged by, and provides recommendations regarding industry best practices.
“This discreet, yet detailed report provides operators with benchmarking- type data that affords them the opportunity to evaluate their own safety programs against some of the most professional companies in the business,” stated Steve Witowski, ARGUS’ SMS Program Manager. “The report highlights the common problem areas found in SMS implementation and execution. In an effort to extract the maximum value out of this report, we have provided sample recommendations and guidelines for each finding.”
