After gifting a Rs 245-crore Airbus to wife, Nita, Mukesh Ambani has gifted himself a Boeing Business Jet 2 (BBJ2). With this purchase, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) owns a fleet of 10 aircraft.
On November 28, the ministry of civil aviation granted Reliance Commercial Private Dealers an NOC to import 5 aircrafts. One of those was a BBJ2, to be exclusively used by RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani. DNA has a copy of the NOC.
The BBJ2, priced at $ 73 million is derived from the 737-800 airframe design. The plane is a veritable flying hotel-cum-boardroom. Its 1,004 sq-ft cabin can seat up to 78 passengers. It also has an executive lounge and a private suite. The interior configuration can typically include an executive office, conference rooms, private offices and bedrooms.
The aircraft comes with the additional option of creating personal environment. For example, instead of having a living room-dining room-master bedroom-bathroom layout, the owner can opt for two bedrooms and two bathrooms. For interior designing, the completion allowance caps at 7,030 kg.
RIL has also got approval for the import of two new Augusta executive transport helicopters, a Global XRS, Model BD-700 aircraft and one Falcon 900 Ex Easy.
The RIL spokesperson, when contacted, said he was not in a position to comment on the issue.
