The Stratford-based company said it has been picked as the British royal family´s preferred helicopter maker.
If the government of the United Kingdom approves, Sikorsky will replace the monarchy´s current helicopter with a new model. The company won´t say how much the deal is worth, but the helicopter will enter service by 2009.
The chief pilot of the Queen´s Helicopter Flight says the royal household chose the Sikorsky helicopter because it was the best value and would produce the lowest carbon footprint of three finalists. Sikorsky spokesman Paul Jackson says the contract is small but important because the royal helicopter is one of the highest-profile contracts in the world.
