The global civil helicopter market is going through a period of rapid growth. According to an article by JETNET/AvData published in October´s World Aircraft Sales, 22 000 helicopters are currently in operation across the globe 14 600 of which are turbine helicopters. Below are the shares of manufacturers in the global fleet of turbine helicopters:
47% of rotorcraft were manufactured by Bell Helicopter
37% — Eurocopter
5% — Agusta/Westland
4% — MD Helicopters
4% — Sikorsky
3% — Other manufacturers
As we can see, two companies between them have produced 84% of all helicopters now in operation. The share of North America (the US and Canada) in the fleet is a formidable three quarters, which correlates with 89% of the world business jet fleet operating in this region.
